Tropical season
Storm care, the SXM way.
Tropical season runs June to November. Thirty minutes of careful preparation can save an expensive recovery — and a wrecked guest week.
The playbook
Drag along the timeline.
From the first cone on the forecast to a full chemistry reset — what to do, when to do it, and what to ask of your pool team.
WarningT-24h
Prep the pool
The 24-hour window before landfall. This is the busiest day — we run double crews to fit everyone in.
- Lower water 6–12 inches for rainfall room
- Triple-shock with chlorine + algaecide
- Turn off pump + salt cell at the breaker
- Remove ladders, vacuums, hoses, floats, baskets
- Take insurance photos

We do storm prep + post-storm recovery for villas and short-term rentals island-wide.
24 hours out
The eight quiet steps before landfall.
- 01Don't drain the pool — a full pool acts as ballast; an empty one can lift or crack.
- 02Don't cover it — cover anchors become projectiles; the cover traps debris underwater.
- 03Lower water 6–12 inches to allow for rainfall without overflowing.
- 04Shock the pool with a triple dose 24 hours out.
- 05Add a strong algaecide.
- 06Turn off the breaker to the pump and salt cell.
- 07Remove ladders, vacuums, hoses, floats, baskets, decorative rocks.
- 08Take photos for insurance.
During the storm
Stay clear.
Pool decks become slippery and unsafe. Don't run equipment. Don't drain. Don't try to retrieve debris. The water level rising is fine — that's why we lowered it ahead of time.
After the storm
Recovery, in five steps.
- 01Skim large debris before it sinks.
- 02Run the filter on backwash to remove suspended dirt.
- 03Triple-shock and rebalance the chemistry.
- 04Inspect equipment before turning the breaker back on.
- 05Document any damage with photos.
